Karis Sykes, LMFT, LPCC
Karis Sykes is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Professional Clinical Counselor with over 5 years experience working in a clinical setting. Born and raised in San Francisco, Karis moved to Santa Barbara to attend Westmont College, then graduated from Saint Mary's College of California with her MA in Counseling Psychology.
Karis works with adults, adolescents, and offers premarital counseling for couples. Karis has extensive experience working with emerging adults experiencing a variety of mental health concerns, crises, and dual diagnoses, in both high school, college, and inpatient settings. Working with those who experience depression, anxiety, trauma, life transitions, and who seek integration and embodiment are close to Karis’ heart. Special interests include working with those in the LGBTQ+ community, individuals grappling with emerging adulthood, identity formation, and spirituality. Karis has led groups on teen development and somatic meditations.
Karis’ passion in counseling is to create a relationship built on safety, trust, and hope, offering an empathetic and nonjudgmental environment that invites greater acceptance, challenges the client to grow in meaningful ways, and supports empowerment. Karis feels it is a privilege to walk with someone as a resource and witness through our stories that need tending. Karis operates out of a Person-Centered modality, seeing the client as the expert on their own life, working in relationship and immediacy to enact transformation.
When she is not practicing therapy, Karis can be found playing under coast live oaks with her husband and two children. She likely has two or more books going at a time and will readily tell you about them if asked.
