Karis Sykes, AMFT

Karis Sykes is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist and Associate Professional Clinical Counselor. Born and raised in San Francisco, Karis moved to Santa Barbara to attend Westmont College. Karis later graduated from Saint Mary's College of California with her Masters degree in Counseling.

Karis enjoys working with individuals, adolescents, and families. For the past 2 years, Karis has worked clinically with teens experiencing a variety of mental health concerns, crises, and dual diagnoses, in both high school and inpatient settings. Karis has experience working with those who experience depression, anxiety, trauma, and family relationship conflict. Special interests include working with those in the LGBTQ+ community, individuals grappling with emerging adulthood, identity formation, and spirituality. Karis has led groups on teen development and somatic meditations.

Karis operates out of a Person-Centered modality, seeing the client as the expert on their own life, working in relationship and immediacy to enact transformation.

When she is not practicing, Karis can be found walking at the beach or on a trail with her husband and puppy. She also enjoys reading novels or poetry with a mug of tea in a cozy chair.
